BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.2 ZOUMON ($2.65 with BoomBet)
To the big race of the day and the Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott-trained ZOUMON has come back in top-shelf form and looks the benchmark galloper for this year’s Cup. Last start, he came off a win in the Listed McKell Cup (2000m) at Rosehill, when he franked that effort by going back-to-back and taking out the Listed Caloundra Cup (2400m) at the Sunshine Coast just two weeks later. That made it career-win number seven from his 19 starts. He likes to dictate the pace from up front and jumping from gate two today, he should have little trouble taking up the front running here. At his peak today, after three runs back, he’s one they all have to catch.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.5 GRAND HORIZON ($5.10 with BoomBet)
The Tony Ball-trained GRAND HORIZON makes her Grafton debut today and has the runs on the board to suggest she is in line to break through for her maiden win here. Last start, the Capitalist filly made it three-straight minor placings when she finished third in a 1200m Maiden at Port Macquarie. Jumping from gate six, she was trapped three-wide without cover to the turn and still wide when they straightened, just didn’t have enough fuel left to run down the finishing ahead of her in the race. Drawn better here in gate four, she is joined by James Orman for this assignment and maps to settle closer to the fence. With three starts behind her this time in, she should be at her peak now and keeping in closer touch today, she can beat these home.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.6 BAIYKA ($6 with Ladbrokes)
Coffs Harbour galloper BAIYKA is unbeaten on the Grafton track and resuming here, looks a solid chance of remaining that way. The Dream Ahead mare ended her last campaign by finishing third in a BM74 Hcp over the 1000m sprint at Port Macquarie. Since then, she has enjoyed an 11-week break. She returns to racing today boasting a strong record here, including two wins from as many attempts at the track and distance. She has also crossed the line five times over this trip and has James Orman steering her around the track today. Already a two-time winner when first-up, she gets a gun-run from gate two here and with a trouble-free run, is capable of taking this out.
