BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.5 SCHILLER BAY ($2.90 with Picklebet)
The Jenny Graham-trained SCHILLER BAY has found his mojo this preparation and looks set here for back-to-back wins today. Last start, the Artie Schiller gelding collected his first win this time in when he took care of a BM74 over 1000m at Taree. He ran his last 600m, 2.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here while posting the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals as well. Ash Morgan returns for today’s assignment, having scored on the gelding three times previously. In great form and ready to rock here, he looks the one to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.3 AKASAWA ($2.70 with bet365)
Paul Messara saddles-up AKASAWA here and with conditions to suit, he looks poised to take the Cup home to Scone today. Last start, the Real Impact gelding bounced back from an unplaced finish in the Tamworth Cup when he easily accounted for a BM78 field over 1700m on his home track. He ran his last 600m, 6.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this field and ran the fastest final 200m sectional as he crossed the line more than a length in front of the 16-strong field. With Aaron Bullock aboard that day, he had to do it tough, carrying 60.5kgs and jumping from gate 11 (of 16). He has more weight to carry today but has the class to get him home.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8: No.2 LITTLE BEGINNINGS ($3.10 with Ladbrokes)
The Kris Lees-trained LITTLE BEGINNINGS is three starts into this a preparation and with a major gear change here, looks ready to win today. Last start, the Shamus Award gelding finished midfield in a Class 2 Hcp over 1300m at Scone when third-up. He ran that trip out, 4.5 lengths slower than benchmark, still the best last-start effort here. The three-year-old drops in class here which should make things a little easier for him today. Dylan Gibbons returns for his second ride on the galloper who sports the blinkers for the first time and from gate six, he maps to settle better than mid-field with cover. Rock-hard fit after three runs back, he can give this a real shake today.
