Race 6:  No.2  OSTERBERG  ($5 with Ladbrokes)

The Kris Lees-trained OSTERBERG is second-up today and looks well placed to give this contest a real shake. Last start, the Impending gelding was fresh off a 19-week break and arguably should have won the BM64 Hcp he contested over 900m at Newcastle. Treading on heels all the way home, every gap that appeared (briefly) closed on him leaving him no room and no chance of victory that day. He finished fifth of the eight runners, but beaten less than a length over the line. Today, Andrew Gibbons is legged aboard for his third ride on the four-year-old and gets the gun-run from gate one. He maps to be box-seating on settling and avoiding any hold-ups here, he should be there in the firing line for the winner’s cheque. A two-time winner at the trip and a winner when second-up, retribution should be forthcoming today.

Race 7:  No.6  KADALL  ($4 with Neds)

The Team Snowden-trained KADALL is also second-up today and down in grade, looks a genuine contender for the big prize here. Last start, the Capitalist gelding came off a trial win at Rosehill when he finished a close-up fourth (beaten half a length) in a BM64 over 1200m at Gosford. Parked on the fence behind the leader, he was never clear enough to mount a serious challenge, being the meat in the sandwich all the way to the line and unable to stretch right out. He maps to be box-seating again today from gate two with Zac Lloyd aboard for the first time. He won second-up last preparation and in this slightly easier affair, he should prove hard to hold out in this contest.

Race 5:  No.4  ALDEENAARY  ($6 with Bet Right)

John O’Shea saddles-up ALDEENAARY here who is second-up and with several gear changes today, just might play a role in the outcome of this contest. Last start, the Irish-sired gelding resumed off an 18-week absence and wasn’t disgraced when beaten 2.5 lengths in a BM64 Hcp, here over the mile, while lumping 61kgs on his fresh legs. The stable have put the tongue tie back on, blinkers on for the first time and removed the nose roll for this event and have locked in Tyler Schiller for his first ride on the six-year-old. He draws gate two here which has him settling just behind the speed, doing no early work at all. Fitter and carrying less weight today, he looks a big chance at victory.
