Hawkesbury Tips 11/06/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1 No. 2 FLYING BIRDS – ($7)

Trainer Bjorn Baker will have FLYING BIRDS fitter and ready to go close at Hawkesbury Racecourse on Sunday. The horse seemed to be struggling towards the back half of the field when racing first-up at Queanbeyan. Punters sent Flying Birds out as an even-money favourite on the heavy track over 900 metres. Brandon Lerena remained hard at work on the 3yo, and Flying Birds did catch the eye between runners late for third. Settled up on the speed second-up over 1200 metres at Kembla Grange on a good track. Flying Birds wilted late as the cavalry arrived and he finished 1.5 Lengths off the winner. Adam Hyeronimus can give Flying Birds the run of the race behind the speed and the pair should be strong through the line.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5 No. 6 DONEGAL LIGHTS – ($7)

The pacifiers went onto DONEGAL LIGHTS who seemed to respond to the gear change when settling around midfield the fence. Nick Heywood had him off and circling the field as they rounded for home over 1200 metres on a heavy track at Goulburn. Donegal Lights seemed to peak on his run late as One Destiny held him safely to the line. Donegal Lights then pulled hard with the mouth open as Grant Buckley attempted to restrain him over 1400 metres at Kembla Grange. The horse still came with a strong run up the middle of the track as the winner Resistible proved too good. Comes back to 1300 metres while drawn perfectly and should be right there in the finish.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4 No. 6 MISSILE MAX – ($9)

Reece Jones gets back aboard the ungainly three-year-old MISSILE MAX who resumes for local trainer Mick Attard. Missile Max improved throughout his debut prep and did manage to catch the eye over this track and trip. He really has no early speed whatsoever and did run on strongly late under Jones. They finished just in behind the placings before Missile Max came out to look the winner over 1500 metres here at his next start. Missile Max found inside runs that day over 1500m, and did appear to hit the front late into the straight. He was just edged out in the photo while leaving gaps back through to the rest of the field. Jones will be smoking his pipe early in a race where there appears to be some pressure in front. Missile Max will be finishing strongly underneath him and does loom as one to follow this prep.
