BEST BET 🏆
Race 5: No.1 MONASTERY ($1.90 with BoomBet)
The Townsville-trained MONASTERY drops in grade here and will take a ton of beating in this contest. Last start, the So You Think gelding was fourth-up and proved too strong for them, taking out a BM65 Hcp over 2000m on his home track. He sat just off the pace that day and passing the 200m mark, took over and held them all at bay. Carl Spry has the reins today and from gate five, the four-year-old maps to settle just behind the speed. He has some weight to carry here but in easier company and in great touch this preparation, he still looks the testing material.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.9 RED BOOMSHAKALAKA ($2.30 with Ladbrokes)
Ben Williams saddles-up RED BOOMSHAKALAKA here who is high flying this time in and looks the one to beat in this contest. Last start, the Spirit Of Boom mare came off a hat-trick of victories when she looked set for another win but was grabbed on the line by two swoopers, leaving her with the bronze medal in a Three-Year-Old Hcp over 1000 at Townsville. She drops 2kgs here and has Nathan Day sticking with her who boasts two wins and three minor placings from his six previous rides on the mare. She maps to settle on-speed from gate seven and already a three-time winner over the trip, she will take beating here today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 3: No.3 SONOFTHEBEAST ($5 with Bet Right)
Atherton trainer, Ricky Ludwig, makes the six-hour trip down the Bruce Highway and saddles-up SONOFTHEBEAST here who is in top-shelf form this time in and looks set to go on with it today. Last start, the Maurice gelding was shooting for the hat-trick at Townsville but came in just short, finishing third, beaten half a length in a Class 3 Plate over 1400m on the Cluden Park track. Settling mid-field and three-deep without cover, he took the turn as the widest runner and did a mighty job to finish as close as he did. Townsville rider Frank Edwards was aboard that day and boasts a solid record with the five-year-old, with his six rides to date resulting in three wins and as many minor placings, yet to miss a podium finish with the galloper. In career-best form this preparation and with ‘Frankie’ Edwards sticking with him, a trouble-free run today sees him as a prime contender for victory here.
