Hong Kong Tips for Wednesday, October 04

Our form expert provides Hong Kong tips for tonight’s horse racing at Happy Valley Racecourse and gives his best bets.

BEST BET 🏆

Race 8:  No.12  ROYAL PRIDE  ($5.50 with Bet Right)

The Caspar Fownes-trained ROYAL PRIDE is yet to make the podium after three starts at this level, but second-up tonight, he can make some noise and give this contest a real shake. Last start, the Medaglia D’oro gelding was fresh off the season break when he finished mid-field (beaten just two lengths) in a Class 3 Hcp over 1400m at Sha Tin. That was his fifteenth start at the Sha Tin track where he is yet to score a top-three finish. Alex Badel sticks with him here where he was a winner last preparation. Nicely drawn in gate four tonight, his resume shows he is a winner when second-up and over this distance as well. A clear run to the line tonight can see him apply the weight advantage here and collect the major prize for this contest.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3:  No.4  HEROIC MASTER  ($6 with Palmerbet)

The Frankie Lor-trained HEROIC MASTER is second-up tonight and with a new rider in the saddle, looks a solid winning chance here. Last start, the Not A Single Doubt gelding was part of a three-horse battle to the line where his condition gave out in the final 50m, seeing him claim third prize in the end. The same three gallopers lock horns here where Heroic Master is already a winner here and unbeaten in two second-up appearances. Purton swaps to Humble Star while Karis Teetan does the same thing (and swaps from Humble Star to Heroic Master). The former Australian galloper draws nicely in gate four and fitter for that first-up run, should be there at the finish tonight.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 5:  No.7  LUCKY ARCHANGEL  ($9 with Unibet

Frankie Lor saddles-up LUCKY ARCHANGEL here who is third-up off the season break and looks well placed here for back-to-back victories tonight. Last start, the Deep Field gelding showed plenty of improvement to claim victory in a Class 4 Hcp, here over 1200m, carrying 60kgs that night. He takes on Class 3 company for the first time tonight but does drop 8kgs after the claim. Drawn well in gate five, he is a multiple winner at the track and has been successful when third-up in the past. A trouble-free run here can see him saluting again in this contest at odds.
