This race ends the Jockey’s Challenge for the meeting as we run with GAMEPLAYER ELITE to salute. Doug Whyte and J.Mac combine again here with the American-bred galloper who is third-up and looks ready to produce. Last start, the four-year-old gelding had no luck when he finished just behind the placegetters in a Class 3, here over 1200m. He missed the jump and settled second-last, spotting the leaders a dozen lengths on the turn. Still way out of contention halfway down the straight, he grew another leg and stormed home to just miss a podium finish. The former Brazilian grey galloper now looks set for an even bigger performance tonight and with a better start and trouble-free run, J.Mac can get him home.

Race 6:  No.5  HAPPY TRIO  ($9.10 with BoomBet)

The Doug Whyte-trained HAPPY TRIO is at his best now and looks a genuine chance of going back-to-back tonight. Last start, the Dawn Approach gelding did it the hard way and was impressive when winning a Class 4, here over the 1200m trip. From gate nine, he was never on the track, caught three and four deep to the turn where Luke Ferraris asked him for more and the five-year-old responded and powered home to take the accolades. Despite the hard run, he still broke 1:10 for the 1200m (running it in 1:09.9). Now three starts back, he should be at his peak tonight and looks a great each-way chance from gate five.

Race 4:  No.1  AMAZING ACE  ($11 with bet365)

The International jockey’s challenge begins here and we fancy Aussie rider, James McDonald, to kick proceedings off with a win by steering the Pierre Ng-trained AMAZING ACE to victory in this contest. Last start, the I Am Invincible gelding drew gate 12 (of 14) and was never on the track when finishing mid-field in a Class 4 over 1000m at Sha Tin. That was his third start on the alternate track where he is yet make the podium. Now four starts into his Hong Kong career, the former Aussie galloper draws much better here in gate six and maps to settle near mid-field with cover this time. With J.Mac in control tonight, and at his peak after four runs, we should see a different horse here. He certainly looks well worth an each-way ticket.
