Hong Kong Preview & Best Bets – 10/12/2023
Hong Kong Tips for Sunday, December 10
Our form expert provides Hong Kong tips for today’s horse racing at Sha Tin Racecourse and gives his best bets.
BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.2 ENSUED ($2.90 with Bet Right)
The John Size-trained ENSUED is unbeaten in two starts back and looks a shoe-in for the hat-trick today. Last start, the American-sired gelding joined forces with Australian rider Brenton Avdulla which proved a positive move as he beat the odds and arrived in time to score in a Class 3, here over 2000m. From gate 12 (of 13), he settled sixth, one off the fence without cover and remained there to the turn. He then knuckled down and collared all in front of him to claim the main prize that day. The former English-based galloper is unbeaten in two Hong Kong starts (both on the Sha Tin track), and today has Avdulla sticking with him for this assignment. Much better drawn here in gate two, and even fitter from two starts this time in, he will take beating in this contest.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.3 TAMRA BLITZ ($7.10 with BoomBet)
The Doug Whyte-trained TAMRA BLITZ is high-flying this time in and looks a force in this contest. Last start, the Irish-sired gelding was second-up when he clobbered his rivals in a Class 3, here over 1400m. Sitting in the one-one, he tracked the leaders into the straight then went to work. Collaring them inside the final 100m, he raced away to win by more than a length on the line after another copy-book ride from Anthony Hamelin, who recorded his second win on the five-year-old that day. He meets similar company today and is ideally drawn in gate three where he maps to be box-seating on settling. He carries a couple of pounds more today but fitter for two runs back and a three-time track and distance winner, he should be there at the finish again.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 8: No.7 STRAIGHT ARRON ($23 with Picklebet)
To the last of the four Group 1 events of the day and there’s value to be had here with the Caspar Fownes-trained STRAIGHT ARRON who found his mojo last start and is capable of going on with it here today. The Fastnet Rock gelding was fourth-up this preparation when he finished too strong for them in the Group 2 Jockey Club Cup, here over 2000m. Vince Ho chalked-up his third win on the five-year-old that day, from just five rides to date. He should be at his peak today and although yet to find the podium in two previous Group 1 attempts, he ticks all other boxes and (currently) at double figures, he looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
