BEST BET 🏆
Race 8: No.2 TUCHEL ($2.70 with Bet Right)
John Size and Zac Purton team-up again here with TUCHEL who is in career-best form and looks the testing material in this contest. Last start, the Redwood gelding brought up his second win in three starts when he proved too good for them in the Group 3 Premier Plate, here over 1800m. Ridden a treat by Purton, he settled just behind the speed (after a great start), and in the run home, took over inside the last 300m and held them all comfortably in the end. Dropping in grade here, Purton sticks with him (after steering the galloper to five of his six career victories to date) and from gate six, he maps to run a similar race again and should prove hard to beat.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 5: No.9 JUNE PLANET ($3 with Bet Right)
The Caspar Fownes-trained JUNE PLANET is overdue for a win and this contest looks ideal for that to happen today. Last start, the Not A Single Doubt gelding made it a hat-trick of minor placings when he finished second (again) in a Class 4 Hcp, here over 1400m. With Vince Ho in the saddle, he settled near last from his wide gate (11 of 13) and did well to pass all but one in the run to the line. Ho sticks with him today as he fares a little better in the barrier draw. Seven starts this time in have resulted in four podium finishes without collecting the major prize. That can all change today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 9: No.8 UNIVERSAL HORIZON ($4.60 with Ladbrokes)
The Francis Lui-trained UNIVERSAL HORIZON is in top-shelf form this time in and looks well placed here to go on with it today. Last start, the Shalaa gelding came off a Class 3 win on this track when met similar company as he stepped up to the 1800m. The extra distance proved his undoing as he ran out of gas inside the final 200m but fought on well to claim third prize, beaten just over a length that day. He drops back to the mile here where he is already a track and distance winner. Regular rider, Vince Ho sticks with him (having already steered him to both career wins to date). Wit a trouble-free run here, he should be there at the finish again.
