Hong Kong Preview & Best Bets – 18/10/2023
Hong Kong Tips for Wednesday, October 18
Our form expert provides Hong Kong tips for tonight’s horse racing at Happy Valley Racecourse and gives his best bets.
BEST BET 🏆
Race 8: No.3 WONDER KIT ($2.40 with bet365)
The Francis Lui-trained WONDER KIT is second-up off a 13-week spell tonight and ticks enough boxes that suggest he is the testing material in this contest. Last start, the Sooboog gelding was fresh off that break and not disgraced when finishing fourth in a Class 3 Hcp, here over 1200m with Vince Ho in the saddle. He drew the outside gate (10) that night and did well to finish within 2.5 lengths of the winner. The five-year-old is already a winner when second-up and has a victory here over the 1200m. He gets the boom draw here in gate two and with Ho out suspended, he has Zac Purton as the pilot for the first time. He was our Best Bet last start and we are sticking with him here again.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.2 ROMANTIC LAOS ($2.40 with bet365)
New trainer Cody Mo saddles-up ROMANTIC LAOS here who is second-up and looks likely for back-to-back victories tonight. Last start, the Pins gelding was fresh off the season break and wasted no time by taking out a Class 3 Hcp, here over the 1650m trip. With Zac Purton aboard, he jumped from the outside gate (11) and on fresh legs gave them a galloping lesson as he crossed the line more than a length in front of the field with plenty to spare. That made it four starts at the track and distance for two wins and a close-up second and Purton’s third win on the five-year-old. Same track and same trip tonight only drawn much better in gate two. Fitter for that first-up win and Purton remaining the pilot, he should prove hard to beat again.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.3 SNOWALOT ($4.60 with bet365)
The David Hayes-trained SNOWALOT is third-up tonight and showed enough improvement at Sha Tin to suggest he can give this contest a real shake. Last start, Contributer gelding was second-up and far from disgraced when finishing fourth (beaten two lengths) in a Class 4 over the Sha Tin mile with Zac Purton in the saddle. He was one of five horses who fought out that event with his condition just giving out in the final 100m. He draws far better here in gate two with Purton sticking with him for the assignment. He will strip fitter tonight and with a clear run to the line, he should be there at the finish.
