BEST BET 🏆
Race 9: No.8 SNAFFLES ($3.80 with bet365)
The David Hayes-trained SNAFFLES is second-up off the season break today and looks well placed here to test this field. Last start, the Irish-bred gelding settled last to the turn where Karis Teetan pulled him wide stake a claim in the race. He was hampered and tightened for room but found clean air and stormed home to grab third prize in a blanket finish. Ideally drawn in gate two today, he does no early work and should have plenty of fuel left for the run home. Already a winner when second-up and a two-time winner at the track, Teetan sticks with him for this assignment and the four-year-old should take beating today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 7: No.2 BRAVE DREAMS ($9 with bet365)
Another from the Tony Cruz stable is BRAVE DREAMS who resumes after five months in the paddock and looks a better than even chance of victory here. Last start, the Duporth gelding ended his last campaign with a win here in Class 3 company over 1400m. With Hugh Bowman aboard, he settled mid-field on a heavy track and turning for home, Bowman kept him close to the inside fence where he di best to beat them home in the pouring rain. Bowman sticks with him here where he is already a four-time winner at the track. Placed when first-up previously, he can figure here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.2 CALIFORNIA DEEPY ($11 with Bet Right)
The Tony Cruz-trained CALIFORNIA DEEPLY is second-up off here and ticks enough boxes to get interested in his winning chances today. Last start, he came off a 16-week spell and on fresh legs, wasn’t disgraced when finishing mid-field in a Class 3 over 1000m at Happy Valley. His winning chances were dashed at the barriers when he left gates more than a length behind the field after missing the jump. He improved enough to finish just three lengths from the winner on the night. His prospects are greatly enhanced here as he returns to the Sha Tin track where 10 starts at the track and distance have resulted in two wins and three minor placings. Also a winner when second-up, Brenton Avdulla flies the Aussie flag today as he is booked for the ride and with a trouble-free run today, he can give this contest a real shake.
