The Pierre Ng-trained HUMBLE STAR is in career-best form this time in and looks all set for back-to-back victories tonight. Last start, the Star Witness gelding came off a hat-trick of minor money finishes when he beat home a Class 3 field, here over 1000m with Zac Purton in the saddle. He settled mid-field some six lengths of the blistering pace, but in the run home, Purton’s patience paid off and he cruised past the leaders and went on to win comfortably by 1.5 lengths on the line. He faces similar company tonight and draws even better in gate three. Purton sticks with him and at his peak here, he should prove hard to hold out again.

Race 5:  No.3  RUBYLOT  ($4.20 with bet365)

David Hayes saddles-up RUBYLOT here who has impressed with three podium finishes to start his racing career and seeing Happy Valley for the first time tonight, looks well placed to record his first win. Last start, the Rubick gelding carried 60kgs when he finished third in a Class 4 over 1200m on the Sha Tin track. He went hard early to push through and lead and in the murky conditions, he didn’t have enough fuel left to see it out, having to settle for the bronze medal that day. Zac Purton jumps aboard for the first time tonight and with fitter for those three runs, the three-year-old looks a genuine winning chance in this contest.

Race 7:  No.3  ROMANTIC LAOS  ($8.50 with bet365)

New trainer, Cody Mo, saddles-up ROMANTIC LAOS here who is high-flying this time in and ticks enough boxes here to suggest he can take this contest out tonight. Last start, the Pins gelding was third-up and not that far away when he crossed the line in third place, here in Class 3 company over the 1650m trip. Zac Purton had him settled mid-field on the fence and in the run home, looked a winning chance but couldn’t hold out Chill Chibi who picked up all the breaks along the fence and Karma (who nutted him out of second prize right on the line. Tonight, James McDonald is the pilot (with Purton engaged to ride Big Red) and from gate three, the five-year-old maps to settle on the fence, a little closer to the speed. He meets Chill Chibi better at the weights tonight and just might turn the tables.
