BEST BET 🏆
Race 1: No.5 HIGHLAND CATHEDRAL ($2.25 with Neds)
The Annabel Neasham-trained HIGHLAND CATHEDRAL has been in top-shelf form since joining the Neasham stable and looks the best of the day in this contest. Two starts back, the well-bred Highland Reel mare finally broke through for her maiden win when she destroyed her rivals over 1650m at Beaudesert. Taking over on the turn, a couple of slaps with the whip and she strolled away to put nine lengths on them over the line. Then last start, she met much stronger opposition when finishing mid-field (still beaten less than two lengths), in a BM64 over 1650m at Doomben. She leaves the city behind here and returns to country racing and after the claim, carries the same weight as last start. Neasham sees more ground in her as she steps up in trip here and with a trouble-free run again, she should take a ton of beating today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3: No.2 MONTABOT ($4.40 with Ladbrokes)
The Matt Dunn-trained MONTABOT is second-up today and ticks enough boxes here to be considered a real winning chance in this contest. Last start, the Irish-bred gelding resumed off a 10-week break where he finished unplaced in a BM70 over the mile at Doomben. Fitter for that hit-out, he returns to the country scene today and where he is a two-time winner when second-up and has James Orman back in the saddle for his second ride on the seven-year-old. He has just one victory on Australian soil and that came right here last preparation in BM75 company. He gets all the favours from gate one today and looks poised to challenge for victory here.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.6 SET TO SHINE ($12 with Bet Right)
Tony Gollan saddles-up a couple here where we are running with SET TO SHINE as the more likely improver in this contest. Last start, the I Am Invincible mare was second-up and showed plenty of improvement when she finished third in Class 1 company over 1050m at Doomben. She did it tough that day, sitting outside the leader without cover and fought on gamely in the run home. She should find this contest a bit easier as Angela Jones sticks with her for this assignment. She has the outside gate today where she maps to cross and find cover near mid-field. With an easier run today, she give this a real fright at odds.
