BEST BET 🏆
Race 7: No.1 HARDWARE LANE ($3.50 with Bet Right)
Winning two of his four starts this preparation, the John Smerdon-trained HARDWARE LANE is in great touch and looks set to give this contest a real shake. Last start, the Scissor Kick gelding dropped back in grade and made it look easy as he took out a Class 5 Hcp, here over 1100m on a Heavy 8 that day. Settling just off the pace, he took control soon after straightening and went on to win by a length over the line. He won here in this class three starts back and is now unbeaten in two starts at the track and distance. Jaspar Franklin is the pilot today and his 2kg claim will be a bonus. At his peak and in career-best form, he looks the goods today.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4: No.6 CHAYSE ‘N’ ADAM ($4.60 with Neds)
The Les Kelly-trained CHAYSE ‘N’ ADAM is second-up today and looks every chance of going back-to-back in this contest. Last start, the Maurice filly resumed off a 14-week break where she made it two-from-two at this track, winning a BM58 over 1350m. With Sean Cormack aboard, she box-seated on settling and just finished too strong for them in the end. Up slightly in grade today, Cormack sticks with her as she takes on the mile trip for the first time. Fitter for that first-up run, she should handle the extra distance without too much trouble and looks the one to beat.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6: No.5 JUMP’N FLY ($8.50 with Ladbrokes)
Tony Gollan saddles-up JUMP’N FLY here who ticks enough boxes to make things interesting in this contest. Last start, the I Am Invincible mare made it two-straight when she claimed the first prize cheque in a BM62, here over 1100m with Angela Jones aboard. She came from behind that day and showed plenty of fight to finish best on the line. Shooting for the hat-trick today, she gets the gun-run from gate one and will be at her peak after five runs this preparation. Jones has steered her to all three career wins and has the job again here. Down 2kgs today, she looks set for another bold performance.
