Race 5:  No.3  A CALL FROM HEAVEN  ($3.40 with Palmerbet)

The Tony Gollan-trained A CALL FROM HEAVEN is third-up today and ticks enough boxes here to be considered a winning chance today. Last start, the Divine Prophet mare improved off her first-up effort when she fought on strongly to take home third prize in a BM65 Hcp, here over the 12350m trip, beaten a length on the line. That was her fifth start here where she boasts two wins and as many minor placings now. She meets similar company today but steps-up to the mile journey for the first time. Angela Jones jumps aboard for her first ride on the mare and from gate four, should enjoy a nice run in transit. Already a winner when third-up and fitter for those two runs back, she should prove hard to beat in this contest.

Race 6:  No.3  TARPS  ($6 with Ladbrokes)

Gold Coast galloper TARPS sees the Ipswich track for the first time today and second-up looks the testing material in this contest. Last start, the Spirit Of Boom colt came off a 16-week spell and on fresh legs, destroyed his opposition when breaking through for his Maiden win. He did it the hard way as he drew the outside gate (9) and had to circle the field before finding the lead. Turning for home, he was two lengths clear and from there, just increased his lead. Inside the final 100m, Bailey Wheeler took his foot off the pedal but still managed to cross the line 8.5 lengths clear of them. Drawn much better today in gate three, Boris Thornton has the reins for the first time and with a clear run to the line again, he should prove hard to keep out.

Race 8:  No.5  MISS MCKINLEY  ($11 with BoomBet)

The last of the day is an open affair as we run with the Team Sears-trained MISS MCKINLEY who is yet to miss a podium finish from her four starts this time in. Last start, the Dawn Approach mare was shooting for back-to-back wins when she beat all but one home in a BM70 Hcp over 1300m at Toowoomba. She drew wide that day and pushed forward to settle just behind the speed and after taking over on the turn, couldn’t hold off the challenge from Just Engaged and had to settle for second prize. She meets similar company here buts draws much better in gate two where she maps to be box-seating early. Rock-hard fit after four starts back and already a track and distance winner, she looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
