BEST BET 🏆
Race 6: No.4 KOZANI ($2.70 with Bet Right)
Trained at Deagon by Jack Bruce, KOZANI has finished in the money at his only two starts and looks a good thing here to make it third time lucky today. Last start, the Sepoy gelding tried leading all the way in a 1400m Maiden Hcp at the Sunshine Coast and almost got away with it, nabbed on the line by a swooper. Fitter for two runs, he has Ben Thompson returning for today’s assignment who finished third on him on debut, here two starts back. Better drawn here in gate six, he drops in weight and should take beating.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 10: No.10 MORETON BAY ($7 with Bet Right)
Tony Gollan saddles-up MORETON BAY here who is second-up and ticks enough boxes to be considered a genuine contender in this contest. Last start, the Cable Bay mare was fresh after a lengthy 21 weeks in the paddock where she finished mid-field in a BM68 Hcp, here over 1200m. Clearly in need of the run, she wasn’t disgraced, beaten just 1.5 lengths on the line. This is slightly tougher but after the claim by Melea Castle, the mare drops 5.5kgs here and carries 3kgs under the limit. All three previous second-up efforts finished in podium finishes and fitter for that first-up run, she looks a threat to these at good odds today.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7: No.4 NINA ARTIE ($15 with Picklebet)
Having just his second start for Desleigh Forster, Nina Artie should find this contest a little easier and with Jim Byrne aboard today, he looks a knock-out hope at odds. Last start, the Flying Artie gelding resumed off a lengthy 21-week absence (after transferring from the Kelly Purdy stable) and wasn’t disgraced when finishing unplaced in a BM65 Hcp, here over 1350m. Beaten just 2.5 lengths, he ran his last 600m, 1 length quicker than benchmark, the best last-start effort here by more than 4 lengths. Drawn well in gate four today, he steps-up to a more suitable distance here where two previous runs at the mile both ended in top-two finishes. He’ll do no early work from gate four and fitter for that first-up hit-out, he looks well worth an each-way ticket in this contest.
