Race 3:  No.3  STARS AND BARS  ($3.80 with bet365)

Hawkesbury galloper STARS AND BARS makes his second appearance at the Kembla Grange track today and his current form suggests he can play a serious role in the outcome of this contest. Last start, the Starspangledbanner gelding was third-up when he finally broke through for his maiden win at Newcastle. With Jason Collett aboard for the first time, he settled second, six lengths behind the tearaway leader but gave supporters no cause for alarm as he reeled him in and went on to win by more than three lengths. He also posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. He was heavily backed that day ($1.65 into $1.25) and the ease of his victory supported his starting price. Scratched from race eight to run here, Collett sticks with him and he only has to overcome the wide draw (9) to hand out a similar beating to this field.

Race 7:  No.8  ALWAYS IN  ($5.60 with BoomBet)

The Kim Waugh-trained ALWAYS IN is second-up off her last-start maiden win and looks well placed here to go on with it today. Last start, the Olympic Glory filly resumed off a lengthy 21-week break when she came from well back to claim the Maiden Hcp over 1350m on her home track at Wyong. She drew the outside gate (10) that day but Jay Ford still managed to steer her home with 58.5kgs on her back. She ran the last 600m, 3.5 lengths quicker than benchmark, the best in this line-up and posted the fastest final 800m to 200m sectionals for the race. This will be her fourth career race-start and based on that last-start performance, she will take beating today.

Race 6:  No.3  CRYSTAL WATERS  ($13 with Palmerbet)

Locally-trained by Paul Murray, CRYSTAL WATERS returns to her home track today and ignoring the porthole alongside her name, she looms here as a genuine winning chance in this contest. Last start, something went amiss with the mare as she was pulled out of contention by Rachel King, who wasn’t happy with her racing action in the BM72 Midway Hcp at Rosehill. Prior to that start, she enjoyed back-to-back victories here, both in BM64 company. Jett Stanley has his first ride on the mare today and brings a 2kg claim with him. The five-year-old boasts three of her six career wins on this track and a return to form today would not surprise. The bagmen have her at (currently) double-figure odds and with her home-track record, she looks well worth an each-ticket today.
