Race 8:  No.6  SHOTGUN SAM  ($8 with Palmerbet)

The Team Sears-trained SHOTGUN SAM impressed with his debut run for the new stable and looks set for back-to-back victories here. Last start, the Tycoon Ruler gelding had just moved from the Don Baker stables and after nearly six months off the scene, showed no signs of fatigue as he took out a BM0-55 Hcp over 1100m at Dalby, (the race prior to Sheriff Of London’s win on the same day). The galloping grey finished too strong for them that day, despite covering more of the course than a C Grade golfer over the final 100 metres. The stable are content to stick with the winkers today as Micheal Hellyer also remains in the saddle for this contest. Second-up and fitter here, he boasts strong claims and (currently) looks exceptional value with the bagman and well worth an investment.

Race 4:  No.7  IRISH MAUDIE  ($9 with Bet Right)

Sunshine Coast galloper IRISH MAUDIE has come back in top-shelf form and looks well placed here for back-to-back wins today. Last start, the Defcon filly was second-up and impressed when breaking through for her maiden win at Toowoomba. With Tiff Brooker aboard, she settled mid-field on the fence and came wide on the turn to finish over the top of them, taking out the 1300m event by more than a length on the line. She steps up in class and distance here but will strip even fitter for two runs back. The 13-week break seems to have done the trick with her as Brooker sticks with her for this assignment. She has fitness over the odds-on favourite which puts her in the ball game today.

Race 7:  No.6  SHERIFF OF LONDON  ($9.50 with Ladbrokes)

The Tony Haydon-trained SHERIFF OF LONDON has won two of his four starts this time in and looks a tad overs in this line-up today. Last start, the Whittington gelding bounced back from two unplaced runs in Provincial company when he took out a BM0-55 Hcp over 1100m at Dalby. Hannah Richardson was aboard that day and has been the only one in the saddle so far this preparation. He meets similar competition here and from gate four, maps to settle just off the speed, possibly box-seating. He will be rock-hard fit for this and won his only previous start here, his maiden when first-up this campaign. He has enough runs on the board to be considered a worthy contender at good odds today.
