Race 5:  No.3  ANCIENT MISSION  ($4.80 with Picklebet)

Gold Coast galloper, ANCIENT MISSION is second-up today and boasting experience on the Kilcoy track, looks the one to beat here. Last start, the four-year-old was fresh off a 13-week spell when she was clearly in need of the run, finishing fifth, here in a BM60 over 1200m. She has since enjoyed a six-week let-up and recently trialled on the synthetic track, finishing second in the hit-out. That should have her topped-off for a tilt at this event today. Jaden Lloyd steered the mare to her maiden win four starts back and is the pilot again for this assignment. Already a track and distance winner, and fitter for that first-up run, she looks a serious player for the major prize today.

Race 4:  No.1  SCENIC RIM  ($3.60 with bet365)

The Diane Murphy-trained SCENIC RIM drops in grade here and looks a genuine chance of bringing up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Scissor Kick gelding made it back-to-back victories when he clobbered a Class 4 field over the mile at Gatton. Leading from barrier to box, he crossed the line two lengths clear of the field in a solid front-running performance. Justin Huxtable has ridden the six-year-old three times now for two wins and remains in the saddle for this assignment. He gets all the favours from gate one today and should find the front without any problem. Then, can they catch him ?

Race 2:  No.3  GAVILAN  ($3.15 with BoomBet)

The Team Sears-trained GAVILAN has had two career-starts now and looks a strong chance of upsetting the odds-on favourite (The Lucky Alien) in this contest today. Last start, he showed a ton of improvement from his debut performance when he destroyed his Maiden rivals, here in the 800m event. Nozi Tomizawa took him straight to the lead on settling and from there, he simply increased his advantage until he crossed the line, four lengths ahead of them. Ideally drawn in gate two here, he will probably lead again and with a weight advantage over the topweight, he can ‘steal’ this contest setting the right speed. Boasting the track experience as well, he looks the better value today.
