BEST BET 🏆   

Race 1 No. 8 LIMBURG ($2.20) 

LIMBURG can go close in the opener. The Team Hawkes-trained galloper resumed at Sandown on January 31 and led before being run down late in the piece by Et Tu Brute, going 2.7 lengths faster than standard benchmark, which is a better figure than what any horse in this race has produced. At his last preparation, the son of Justify led in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at the Valley and was a two-length 4th behind Griff, who went on the claim the Caulfield Guineas. He should be hard to beat. 

NEXT BEST 🥈   

Race 2 No. 1 MAHWERA ($2.60) 

This looks to be a winnable race for MAHWERA. The Busuttin/Young galloper has had the three career starts for a win and two placings. He resumed with a dominant performance in Maiden grade at Cranbourne over the 1400m before tackling a BenchMark 70 and placing 3rd over the 1500m at the Valley on January 27. They went quick in that race and the son of Darci Brahma stuck on well. This looks easier and the blinkers go on for the first time.

Race 8 No. 11 CATAHOULA ($4.80) 

Keen on CATAHOULA in the final race of the day. The Team Hawkes-trained galloper resumed at Sandown over the 1000m and chased well in the small field to fill the exacta behind Tanto. 1200m should suit better and he was a six-length improver on benchmark figures second up at his last preparation when placing at Sandown before scoring at Bendigo. He can box seat from the low draw with Jye McNeil to ride.
