BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 5 BLACK PENN  ($3.40)

Keen on BLACK PENN in Race 5. The Greg Eurell-trained galloper has won just one of 22 but has been edging closer in recent times and just went down late when 3rd at Yarra Valley at his most recent start, with that coming over the 1950m. The six-year-old should be at his peak now after four runs and was excellent at a similar stage of his last preparation when runner-up at Sandown and then at Flemington in the $150,000 Grand Handicap (2000m).

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2 No. 10 OUR CRACKLIN ROSIE- ($4)

OUR CRACKLIN ROSIE can break the maiden tag in Race 2. The locally trained galloper has placed in two of five and led at Echuca on October 19 over the 1100m before being run down late by Ravalli. She gave a bit of a kick in the straight and was outclassed but enjoyed a healthy gap on the rest to go three lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is five lengths better than the next best last start figures of any runner. The daughter of Grunt should have no issues holding the lead from barrier 2 and there doesn’t look to be much pressure around her.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8 No. 1 KAPTAIN KAOS ($15.20)

The feature is the Peninsula Cup and banking on some improvement from KAPTAIN KAOS. The six-year-old found the 1100m too short when resuming at Caulfield behind Viviane before lining up at big odds in the Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m) when 7th of 11 runners behind Ayrton. This is significantly easier and the last time he tackled the 1600m, he was 5th at Group 3 level at Perth. The Lindsey Smith-trained galloper has won two of his other four runs at the trip.
