Morphettville Tips 30/12/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 7 No. 8 ZEBELLA – ($3.20)

The Phillip Stokes yard had ZEBELLA returning for a new prep on a Heavy deck at Morphettville. Zebella recently won a trial in the fastest time of the day without being asked of much. She wasn’t the best out of the gates with Crowther content to settle well off the fast pace set by Roxy Blue. She went to the leader shortly after turning as Rose Ring joined in between them. Roxy Blue and Zebella dropped off the latter inside the furlong with Zebella seemingly gaining the upper hand. Racing fresh on the Heavy track took its toll with the race-fit Roxy Blue kicking back to win. Zebella seemed to handle the conditions and will have taken plenty of benefit from the run.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 6 MANZALA – ($8)

Murray Bridge trainer Ashton Downing has found form with MANZALA who continually flies under the punter’s radar. The market has again opened wide for Manzala who ran another big race over this track and trip last start. The horse is a multiple city winner and proven weight carrier who now drops to below the minimum. Manzala is racing in as good form as he ever has been while being a dual winner over the track and trip. Maggie Collett may find herself a little more forward in the run on an experienced campaigner. They just needed one to move into the race earlier for them last start with Todd Pannell having none of that on his. Manzala backs up from Tuesday after continuing to wear down Call Me Vexatious with the line arriving too soon.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8 No. 5 SANDASTAN – ($11)

Gun apprentice Rochelle Milnes broke through for her first Morphettville winner when SANDASTAN landed at the Friday twilight meeting. Early metro breakthrough aside, the ride wasn’t one for the highlight reel with Milnes finding herself trapped wide from the gate. She kept Sandastan happy while creeping forward into the race to eventually sit on the leader’s hindquarters. They ran a smart time to class which was set up by a good early tempo. Milnes kept her horse balanced as Sandastan raced to the front shortly after straightening to continue running through the line. Garret Lynch has found a thin race to back up in, and Rochelle can land her fist Saturday city winner aboard Sandastan this weekend.
