Morphettville Parks Tips 02/12/2023
BEST BET 🏆
Race 5 No. 4 HOPE AT HAND – ($3.80)
There is a sense of timing and placement about the Andrew Gluyas trained HOPE AT HAND at Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday. The mare was beaten for early speed over a sharp 1000 metres here on the Parks course when resuming. She stuck to her task as Jason Holder hunted her between horses into the straight with Hope At hand finishing behind the placegetters. The pair found themselves off the course over 1100 metres on the outer track when racing second-up. They again weren’t beaten far in another strong race with the winner Starlight Valley making it back to back wins a week later. This race is also significantly weaker than that which was won by Sghirripa with the step-up in trip expected to suit.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 8 No. 6 ROCKSTAR MEGGSY – ($4)
Local trainer Jon O’Connor has removed the blinkers for ROCKSTAR MEGGSY who is a two-time winner over this track and distance. She showed speed without the headgear in a recent trial which has been against her usual pattern of racing. Probably not ideal with where she has drawn; however does have top senior hoop Jason Holder on board to help her through the early stages. Rockstar Meggsy typically does her best racing while fresh and at her best is more than up to these.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 10 No. 5 SECRET WAR – ($10)
The barrier draw has created the market for the last in some sense with operators fishing for bets on SECRET WAR. We’ll indulge them at the double figures on offer as we go searching for our roughie Value Selection. Secret War burnt them off over 1100 metres first-up at Gawler with the last 25 metres proving a few steps too far. Rose Ring stalked the leader throughout to claim our Best Bet of the day Secret War right on the line. It was good to see Secret War burn them off again to score over 955 metres at The Valley second-up. We had often thought this horse may prefer a straight run through the early stages in order to help with his rhythm. Watching his win for the Searle last start gives us the confidence to back Secret War on the Parks track where he’ll take some catching.
