Morphettville Tips 7/11/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 1 No. 4 HIT THE SLOPES – ($3.10)

The early price has given us a chance to cheat a bit and write HIT THE SLOPES up as our best bet in the opener on Cup Day at Morphettville Racecourse. There was plenty to like about Hit The Slopes going into his last start over 1500m at Gawler. We’ve been waiting to see this horse get out to a trip and the Clarken O’Shea stable has found a perfect midweek maiden in town for him. Every man and his dog will be on Hit The Slopes with the market expected to warm for him come race day. Ben Price had his mount building into the race nicely nearing the furlong only to find a couple of wayward horses blocking his path. Hit The Slopes regathered late to build through the line and is expected to find a good run in transit on Tuesday.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 6 JUST JOKING – ($4.60)

Had the opening market not allowed us to be on Hit The Slopes as our best bet then we would have been more than comfortable siding with JUST JOKING. This horse bucked the pattern of the day when Jason Holder plotted a path from a back position to score first-up on Balaklava Cup Day. Just Joking was a surprise winner, paying as much as $41 when breaking his maiden status that day. That race has been a good form reference with four more wins coming from that field. Probably should’ve run third at his next start when racing in restricted room in another good form race behind Mavette at Murray Bridge. Pay to forgive when caught three wide towards the back of the field against the pattern in his latest effort over a mile at Balaklava.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 10 No. 4 SPORTS CHOICE – ($10)

Pakenham trainer Andrew Homann can give a sight in the last on Cup Day at Morphettville with determined sprinter SPORTS CHOICE. His gutsy little mare looked like dropping out of the contest after being given every chance by Ben Price first-up on the Parks track. Sports Choice stuck to her guns to finish less than a length off the winner Foster Street in what has again been a good form race. Cut throats up on the speed with Zarace over 1100m before building out to the middle of the track and proving no match for Wakanjeja who charted a course back to the inside. We made a note to black book the entire race won by Aviatress over this track and trip. Sports Choice was inclined to fight against the rider as Price attempted to restrain her in behind the leaders. She stuck to the task and has again drawn to put herself into the race under Britany Wong.
