Morphettville Tips 8/10/2022

BEST BET 🏆

Race 7 No. 1 STRUCK BY – ($8.60)

They’re gonna have to be good to beat STRUCK BY. The horse flies when fresh and he’ll make short work of that wide draw while coming out of the chute. It’s hard to see where any other genuine speed will come from in this. Both jump outs have been sensational in dropping two Group quality fields, particularly having Extremely Lucky off the bit late. Carries weight, races best fresh and Jason Benbow on a leader is dangerous at anytime.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3 No. 3 COLD CASE – ($4.20)

The early market has left us a price we’re happy to play about COLD CASE on debut. Big field as we’d expect for an early season 3yo maiden in town. Thought the winning chances were limited while being drawn low is, in part, key to his chances. Cold Case has shown natural speed throughout his jumpouts, including forcing recent city winner Rockstar Meggsy to come off the bridle late. His recent winning trial saw him comfortably hold Wine Barron, who could improve sharply and goes in as an each-way chance. That pair ran about 1.5L slower overall time than today’s rivals Sweet Marlene and Wally West. They round-out the chances with Cold Case seemingly doing his trial more comfortably than that pair.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 10 No. 15 OAKFIELD GERONIMO – ($18)

First emergency OAKFIELD GERONIMO gains a start and comes through the right form for a race like this. Trainer Paula Trenwith having her charge coming in second-up from a break with Oakfield Geronimo generally racing best while fresh. He raced outside the leader off a good tempo here three-weeks ago in the race won by Howl. We believe there will be plenty of winners to come out of that event and this is a significant step back in class. We saw horses wanting to get off the inside when the rail was last out ten metres. Drawn inside means Jess Eaton will be able to hunt the good pressure that’s in this race before peeling off and finding which part of the track she wants. Many of the fancied runners will be storming home out wide and we’re backing Oakfield Geronimo to hold them out.
