Morphettville Tips 09/12/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 2 ZEBELLA – ($2.70)

The Phillip Stokes yard has ZEBELLA returning for a new prep after giving her a taste for open company towards the end of last prep. The mare put two wins together when racing fresh last prep with Kayla Crowther allowing her to roll forward onto the speed. This culminated with an impressive city win over Test The Law and I’m A Dexstar on a good surface at Gawler. Zebella recently won a trial in the fastest time of the day without being asked of much. It’s anyone’s guess as to how the weather is going to play out at Morphettville Racecourse on Saturday. Zebella gives the impression that she won’t mind getting her feet wet, and she has drawn to receive an economical run in transit.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 1 APACHE STAR – ($4.25)

Phillip Stokes went close to landing a first-up win with APACHE STAR who had a stop-start campaign last prep. Apache Star found a comfortable lead without any pressure as Kayla Crowther allowed him to run along at a good clip. The stablemate Kermie got it just as easy in following him throughout. She did have the benefit of a run under her belt and clearly enjoyed having a bunny to chase. Apache Stat made her earn the win when he dug deep once headed inside the 100m to almost nail Kermie again on the line. Every winner on the card found some sort of cover into the run which adds merit to the performance Apache Star. Proved that he only stripped fitter for the run when scoring over a mile second-up. Stokes has resisted going for a claim on Saturday, instead opting to keep their stable rider in the saddle as Apache Star searches for back-to-back wins.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 9 No. 3 SAN LUCIDO – ($9)

Christmas has come early for the Jon O’Connor stable after receiving SAN LUCIDO from North-bound trainer Scott Westover. Dom Tourneur had to get into his riding early as the horse took a few awkward steps on debut. He found a good rhythm on San Lucido before balancing up out in the middle of the straight. The pair got home as the eye-catching runner behind Putanothercoin to have the punters sending them out as favourite next start. Both horse and rider put in an outstanding performance to win from their outside alley. This race is obviously a step in grade as O’Connor tests the waters in town. San Lucido gives the impression of a horse with some quality and wouldn’t surprise in winning the last at Morphettville on Saturday.
