Morphettville Tips 21/10/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 5 No. 1 STRUCK BY – ($7.50)

We backed STRUCK BY with a huge amount of confidence as our Best Bet when he won in the double figure range first-up last prep. He had put two impressive jump outs together against black-type sprinters before opening his campaign in benchmark grade. As mentioned in the preview that day, Struck By made short work of his wide barrier to cross the field out of the chute. Trainer Travis Doudle gave Struck By one public jump out over 600 metres last month in which the big grey impressed again. 1100 metres is short of his best trip; however, Struck By is suited in coming out of the chute and is sure to give a sight.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 4 No. 2 SILENT SURRENTE – ($3.30)

Training duo Will Clarken & Niki O’Shea had a crack at black-type with their mare SILENT SURRENTE who acquitted herself well at the grade. She ran as one of the eye-catchers from the back half of the field when making ground between horses in the MacDonald Stakes over 1400 metres. Her Balaklava Cup run is better than reads on paper as she tried to settle a little more forward than usual. Silent Surrente wanted to get the head up and race fiercely after copping a check and then getting onto the heels of the horse in front. Her latest effort in the Murray Bridge Cup was only fair and may suggest she is looking for further. Up in trip and back in class could do the trick for Silent Surrente who is sure to have admirers on Saturday.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 1 No. 10 WARRANDYTE ROAD – ($51)

A lower class race in town such as this is not beyond the reach of WARRANDYTE ROAD who hasn’t had a lot go right recently. Anna Jordjso found herself strung up on the fence with little room to move at Strathalbyn. They didn’t go hard early and Warrandyte Road was okay in getting into third late. Go on the run previous where Justin Potter settled the horse by the tail of the field at Gawler. The pair were no match for the up-and-coming Lights Of Broadway who put a gap on them. Warrandyte Road also managed to gap the rest while running into second. That other horse will go off a hot favourite here as she steps out to the trip for the first time. Happy to follow the form and back Warrandyte Road each way at the big price while being proven over a trip.
