Morphettville Parks 30/09/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 2 No. 8 UTILITARIAN ($5.10)

The first heat of the 1100m maidens ran a smart time to the day and we’ll follow this race. Thought the pick of the runner’s was UTILITARIAN who stepped slowly under Jake Toeroek on debut. Jake hunted the fence with Utilitarian shortly after to find the backs of Episodic and Cararada. The latter of those two is already in the black book file while we also believe that Episodic is not far from a win. Those two found their gaps into the straight to fill the placings while Utilitarian was held-up momentarily before switching course. He finished off sharply for Toeroek to hold out the others for fourth, just behind the placegetters.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6 No. 5 KILLIAKO ($3.20)

Adelaide training foreman Tommy Stokes raced KILLIAKO over 1250 metres here where she got back in a slowly run race. Kayla Crowther circled the field on turning as the leaders opened a gap on their rivals. Killiako kept going up the middle of the track with a powerful run to overwhelm her rivals to the line. They ran some 10 lengths slower than the race won by Lord Vladivostok on the same day while matching them for the last 600 metres. Killiako generally races well at this track and can go on with it here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8 No. 5 BELLAVARDO ($8.50)

The firm track may be of some concern at Morphettville Parks Racecourse on Saturday for BELLAVARDO who deserves her chance in town. She did win on a Good 4 at Balaklava recently which may hold her in good stead as the track here continues to firm up. Wasn’t beaten all that far from The Nephew over this track and trip three runs back before getting over the top of them at Murray Bridge. Bellavardo was again finishing strongly behind Meiner Legacy last start. Both of those races hold good strength for this event on Saturday and we’ll look for Teagan Voorham to be finishing strongly again on Bellavardo as she comes back slightly in distance.
