BEST BET 🏆
Race 5 No. 5 LORD VLADIVOSTOK – ($9.10)
A plan comes together for Michael Hickmott as he legs southpaw jock Mickey Dee aboard LORD VLADIVOSTOK on Saturday. The Lakewood trainer has given his horse plenty of work as he gets out to the mile. Lord Vladivostok gave them a start in the Matrice before finishing strongly against the sprinters. Another barrier trial followed before Lord Vladivostok overreacted to Jess Eaton trying to cut nearer to the middle of the track. The horse became unbalanced and proved difficult to ride into the straight. Hickmott kept him to 1400m where Lord Vladivostok travelled strongly under apprentice Ben Price in the City Of Adelaide. They pair became held up for runs with Lord Vladivostok hitting the line between horses. Has trialled again since and will find the 1600 metres a far more suitable trip.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 2 No. 6 HOWL – ($8.50)
Lachy Neindorf is back and will be hungry to get in amongst the action towards the backend of the carnival. Lachie’s a great match for HOWL and he proved as much during a recent jump out. Trainer David Jolly has jumped Howl out twice now in readiness with Howl doing plenty right to score in his first. Showed promising signs in the following run before getting up to his old antics upon entering the straight. Neindorf was up to task and immediately rode the horse back into his work. Howl has previously shown a disliking to riders steadying him during races and has put on a show at times. Coming out of a middle barrier may suit and allow Neindorf to again ride him into his work rather than taking hold. Has the ability and does his best racing over this track and trip.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 7 No. 2 DIAMONDS – ($15)
Track and distance specialist DIAMONDS did not find a lot to go right for her in the Sangster last start. In saying that, she was still a little disappointing in the end and the stable have lowered their eyes from a G1 this weekend. We did watch her go into that Sangster first-up thinking that she is a better horse with a run under her belt. At her best, Diamonds would be more than competitive in a Goodwood. Jake Toeroek comes on for Chris Bieg and he generally rides well for the stable. Inside draw is possibly no spoil again as Jake will be back early before trying to build some momentum into the race.
