Race 4 No. 2 PORTATION ($3.80)

Stacey Metcalfe has been making up for lost time out of the saddle by ridding a swathe of winners of late. She heads to Mount Gambier Racecourse on Friday with the plumb ride aboard PORTATION for Sue and Jason Jaensch. The equally in-form Cadgee Park crew are riding high from a recent training double in town and have placed Portation back in grade. The mare was beaten for early speed before driving through to a handy position on the Parks track two runs ago. She was much the same throughout behind runaway winner Jack’s On Ice. Since found the front at Murray Bridge and again failed to quicken as the winner Ballon D’Or ran on by. Portation went quickly in front last time and should find this class to be slightly easier.

Race 7 No. 2 CLEVER MAN ($5.50)

Mount Gambier horseman Trevor White can win another country cup on Friday with consistent galloper CLEVER MAN. Jordyn Weatherley found herself trapped deep without cover over this track and trip. She edged closer on Clever Man before the pressure really came on with her mount running it out strongly for a game third. This had punters specking Clever Man at price in the Strathalbyn Cup at his following start. The race was never run to suit as Second To None just walked out in front. Clever Man did find a good trail into the race under Jessica Eaton. The pair finished strongly for second in the provincial cup before we backed him with a fair bit of confidence in the Naracoorte Cup. Forget Clever Man went around that day in hard watch for punters, and he can improve as Eaton comes back into the saddle.

Race 8 No. 5 SNAPTOF ($10)

Local trainer Jeremy Kenny has found a purple–patch of form with his mare SNAPTOF who won three-straight here before being sent to town. She was no match for those horses, though not beaten far after racing on the speed. Capped off the three-peat with her start prior by rolling forward after being caught wide early. Snaptof kept going under the urgings of  Alana Livesey to hold out a similar field and has drawn to go close again on Mount Gambier Cup Day.
