BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 1 MONTIGN – ($3.60)
The good horse MONTIGN made his way back to winning form as apprentice Maggie Collett brought him with a well-timed run to score over 1500 metres at Gawler. Trainer Stuart Padman had given Montign a lengthy let-up following an out of Character run in the Gawler Cup. The rest of his form this prep had been solid in good races without winning. He’s been given four weeks between runs again as he gets out to the mile on the bigger track. That really was a super win at Gawler as he did have to circle from last with the small field just walking out in front. The leaders gave all else the slip on straightening before Montign gunned them down before the shadows of the line approached.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3 No. 3 MAGIC MAX – ($4.40)
Similar conditions await MAGIC MAX who was a brilliant winner over this track and distance last start. He’s been a hard horse to catch and can go on with it now as Morphettville trainers Gordon Richards & Damien Moyle find a similar race for him. Jake Toeroek allowed Magic Max to find his feet early before bringing his mount with a well-judged run into the straight. The pair never looked likely to be beaten once they let down, even though they may have found the front a bit too soon for Jake’s liking. Magic Max showed professionalism in the way he relaxed under his rider through the early stages, and again to keep going inside the furlong to keep going after his class had carried him to the front early.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 9 No. 11 DIAMONDS ARE – ($23)
Ceduna Horsewoman Megan Gillespie sends last-start Port Lincoln winner DIAMONDS ARE to Murray Bridge Racecourse on Saturday. Gillespie transferred the horse into the care of Gary Searle and Nicole Searle, and Brianna Callanan when Diamonds Are stormed to a Saturday metro win over 1700 metres at Gawler in January last year. Twelve-months on, and Gillespie has set herself up as a live chance of claiming a Saturday metro victory in her own name as a trainer. Teagan Voorham will allow her mount to find his feet through the early stages before looking for clear-air to gun them down into the straight.
