Race 2:  No.3  EYES TO EYE  ($3.20 with bet365)

The Ballina-based galloper EYES TO EYE is in career-best form of late and looks well placed here to make it four-straight podium finishes today. Last start, the Tivaci gelding came off a big win in a BM58 Hcp when he stepped-up to the plate and took on Open company over the mile. On a Heavy 8 that day, he led until the dying stages but hung on to finish third with apprentice Heidi Gillie on board. Today, he faces similar company but is back on top of the ground where he also boasts a strong record. Ceejay Graham has the reins here after finishing second on him three starts back. There is some early speed drawn inside here so he may settle just behind the pace but down in weight and in great form of late, he looks a prime contender in this contest.

Race 3:  No.5  SPIELE  ($8 with Palmerbet)

The Stephen Lee-trained SPIELE resumes today off a 22-week absence but with a recent trial behind her, she looks ready to go and is capable of taking out this contest. Last start, the Casino Prince mare ended her last campaign on a high when she took out a Class 1 Hcp, here over 1550m. She returned to work last month when she finished fourth (of 10) in a Ballina trial. Les Tilley was on board for both career-wins to date and has the job again today. She gets the gun-run from gate one where she maps to be box-seating on settling. On fresh legs here, she can give this a real shake today at odds.

Race 6:  No.3  YUKANUMA  ($9.40 with BoomBet)

In an open affair here, we are running with the Stephen Lee-trained YUKANUMA who has found his mojo and looks set for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Real Impact gelding surprised punters (at $31) when he came from last early, to break his Maiden status in style, putting more than a length on them over the line in the 1700m contest at Grafton. Well ridden by Jai Williams, he missed the start by a length and settled third-last on the fence. In the run home, Williams kept looking for gaps and finally it came inside the last 200m where he burst through and went on to a comfortable win in the end. He retains the ride today as he rides for his mentor, (completing his apprenticeship with Lee), and rock-hard fit here after four starts back, the four-year-old looks a solid each-way chance today.
