BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.6  HEIKA  ($2.50 with bet365)

The Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich Team saddle-up HEIKA here who is a proven track lover and second-up today, will take a ton of beating in this contest. Last start, the Maurice gelding resumed off a lengthy 22-week absence and showing no signs of fatigue, took out a Class 1 Hcp over 1200m at Scone. With Aaron Bullock in the saddle, he came from mid-field on the turn and simply finished over the top of them to claim the chocolates over the line. He is a track and distance winner (finishing second at his other start here) and has Bullock remaining aboard, having ridden the four-year-old to both career wins to date. From gate three, he maps to settle right behind the speed and fitter for that first-up run, he can go back-to-back today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3:  No.4  SMART AND DAPPER  ($3.35 with BoomBet)

The Brett Thompson-trained SMART AND DAPPER is three starts into this preparation and now looks ready to win. Last start, the Smart Missile gelding was third-up and having his first shot at the 1200m trip. He was there with them half way to the line but then weakened on his run, finishing fourth in the Class 2 Plate at Coonabarabran. At his peak today, Thompson brings him back to the 1000m where he is already a winner and Jake Pracey-Holmes sticks with him as well. Ideally drawn in gate two, the scene looks set for him to make his track debut a winning one.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 1:  No.5  BRIEFLY  ($7 with Palmerbet

Tamworth galloper, BRIEFLY, is second-up here and looks set to show enough improvement to put herself in with a winning chance today. Last start, the Testa Rossa mare managed to find the podium when first-up off a lengthy 21-week break. She claimed third prize in a BM58 over 900m at Scone where she was part of a blanket finish, beaten less than half a length on the line. Already a winner when second-up, Grant Buckley resumes his normal position, having ridden the mare in 13 of her 19 starts to date and from gate six, she looks a fair chance at odds today.
