Race 5:  No.2  CEASEFIRE  ($1.95 with Palmerbet)

The Paul Messara-trained CEASEFIRE has done everything but win this time in and coming off an impressive city class performance looks set to make it happen today. Last start, the Panzer Division gelding took on a BM72 Hcp on Randwick’s Kensington track and did well to grab third prize, beaten just half a length in the 1300m event. He returns to the country scene today where five starts on this track have resulted in two wins and as many runner-up finishes. Aaron bullock is back on board here after steering the five-year-old to three wins from his six rides to date. With a trouble-free run today, he can collect the major prize.

Race 6:  No.6  LA VESUVIUS  ($4.80 with bet365)

Newcastle galloper LA VESUVIUS resumes here off a 10-week break and looks well placed to bring up the hat-trick today. Last start, the Eurozone gelding came off his maiden win at Scone when he franked that effort by going back-to-back at Taree, winning a Class 1/Maiden Hcp by almost two lengths over the mile. Aaron Bullock steered him to that Scone victory and takes the reins again today. He sees the Muswellbrook track for the first time today as he comes off a recent barrier trial, finishing second over the 1200m work-out. Nicely drawn in gate five, he looks a serious contender in this contest.

Race 7:  No.7  CROSSFIRE ROAD  ($11.20 with BoomBet) 

Mick Attard saddles-up CROSSFIRE ROAD here who is three starts into this campaign and should be ready to win. Last start, the Sebring mare came off an unlucky second at Moruya when she finished just behind the placegetters in a BM58 over 1200m at Goulburn, beaten less than a length on the line. She makes her track debut today and has gate one to make it a little easier. Jean Van Overmeire takes the reins for the first time with the mare dropping 2kgs for the contest. She maps to settle near the speed and should be at her peak for this event. With a trouble-free run, she looks worthy on an each-way ticket today.
