Race 5:  No.7  DRESDEN  ($3.50 with bet365)

Tracey Bartley saddles-up DRESDEN here who has won three of his past five starts and looks well placed here for back-to-back wins today. Last start, the Shamus Award gelding did plenty of early work from his wide gate (9) to find the front, but got there eventually and went on to win a Class 2 Hcp over the mile at Grafton. He gets things a little easier today as he jumps from gate one with Shaun Guymer back for his second ride on the four-year-old. He sees the Bega Valley track for the first time today but already a two-time winner over the mile, he can get the job done here.

Race 2:  No.4  BLUE GROTTO  ($5.75 with Picklebet) 

The Moruya-based galloper BLUE GROTTO is in great touch this time in and third-up today, looks a serious contender for the main prize. Last start, the Kaphero gelding impressed with a hard-fought win in a Class 1 Hcp over 900m at Goulburn. Sitting three-wide without cover to the turn, he battled on gamely to ward off the challenges and beat home the 13-strong field that day. The lightly-raced four-year-old has had just five career starts and his resume shows he has two victories to his name already. Nick Heywood has steered him to both of those and sticks with him here. He maps to settle just behind the pace from gate five today and looks in the mix in this contest.

Race 7:  No.2  STARLIV  ($5.60 with BoomBet)

Canberra galloper STARLIV has been in good touch in recent racing and down sharply in grade today, looks a solid chance of saluting in this contest. Last start, the Star Witness mare was unwanted in the market ($26) as she took on a BM70 field on her home track and surprised when finishing second in the 12-strong line-up over 1206m on the synthetic track. She did it tough, jumping from the outside gate (12), and travelled wide throughout. Recently returning from an extended time off the scene, Beany Panya was aboard for that run and sticks with the mare in this event. Much better drawn today in gate four, she maps to settle in the first half-dozen and although up in weight, Panya’s 2kg claim gives some relief here. The six-year-old mare looks good value in this line-up today.
