BEST BET 🏆
Race 7 No. 2 SO YOU CAN – ($4.80)
Bordertown trainer Jeff Searle has been trying plenty to find that elusive win for SO YOU CAN. The horse ran into a good one when settling handy before hitting the front near the dog leg as Connemara Queen swept past him over 1410m in Mount Gambier. Probably no longer up to provincial class and wasn’t disgraced in running third to Bit Of A Rebel over 1350m at Strathalbyn. They tried something different when sending So You Think to an early lead over 1210m in this class at Mount Gambier. He tired notably late to Heavy Rotation before striking a strong BM58 over this trip in Bordertown. This race looks slightly easier then he’s faced of late, and Kayla Crowther can give So You Can a gun-run early.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3 No. 9 SHADOWFAX – ($3.80)
Shouldn’t think it would take too much work for trainer Chris Bieg to bring SHADOWFAX into full-race fitness. He looked sharp in winning a 600 metre jump out last month before resuming at Gawler. A fast tempo was set as Teagan Voorham allowed her mount to stride forward from their wide gate. Shadowfax was clearly beaten by the top of the straight and yet battled gamely to finish just behind the placegetters of a strong maiden race. Shadowfax looked really good on debut when ridden with cover handy to the speed. Can get that again here while enjoying a slightly easier tempo over the 1200m on Sunday.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 5 No. 4 PEWTER – ($15)
Local trainer Sue Murphy often finds sharp improvement in PEWTER from his first-up to second-up runs. He was always out the back over 1200m here last start on a day where a lot of horses failed to produce their best. Pewter was okay in just holding his margin into the straight. This is a better trip for Pewter to contest and he can improve sharply with that run under his belt as Todd Pannell now comes into the saddle.
