AVONDALE

BEST BET 🏆

Race 2:  No.8  RUSSIAN SATIRE  ($3.70 with Bet Right)

The Andrew Forsman-trained RUSSIAN SATIRE is second-up here and looks set for back-to-back victories today. Last start, the Russian Revolution filly came off a lengthy six-month absence but showed no signs of any fatigue as she clobbered her rivals in a 1200m Maiden at Te Rapa. Drawn the outside gate, she travelled four-wide (without cover) the entire trip and still managed to put 6.5 lengths on them over the line, on a heavy track. All she needs to do here is repeat the dose and she can take this contest out.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 6:  No.1  ON THE PROWL  ($3.90 with Bet Right)

Ralf Manning saddles-up ON THE PROWL here and improving with every run this preparation, she looks ready to win. Last start, the Contributor mare found the podium for the first time this campaign when she beat all but one home in the Group 3 Rotorua Itm Stakes (1400m) at Arawa Park. She drew gate 11 (of 13) and came from mid-field on the turn to finish within two lengths of the winner (Wessex). Apprentice Tayla Mitchell was aboard that day and sticks with the mare here. Nearing her peak now after three runs back, she draws much better today in gate four and dropping sharply in grade, should prove hard to hold out here.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 8:  No.2  MONT VENTOUX  ($4.65 with BoomBet)

The Pukekohe Park-based galloper MONT VENTOUX is third-up here and ticks enough boxes to suggest he is a winning chance today. Last start, the Nom Du Jeu gelding was second-up and in need of the run when he finished fifth in the Jra Trophy Hcp over 1500m on his home track. He will strip fitter here and is already a winner when third-up. All seven career wins have come on wet tracks so the forecast heavy track today looks ideal for him. Ideally drawn in gate two, we should see the best of him here.

WANGANUI

BEST BET 🏆

Race 6:  No.1  JUSTASKME  ($1.90 with bet365)

Allan Sharrock saddles-up JUSTASKME here who will take a ton of beating in this contest. Last start, the English-sired gelding was third-up and full of running when he destroyed his rivals in the Listed Rangitikei Gold Cup over 1550m. Jumping from the cark park in gate 11 (of 11), he was trapped four and five deep the entire trip but it made little difference in the end. Finishing nearer the outside fence (due to the heavy going), he was in a race of his own as he crossed the line five lengths ahead of them. Jonathan Parkes was aboard for that run and sticks with him here. All ten career wins (and in fact all 17 podium finishes) have come on rain affected tracks so he will be in his element here today. It will take a smart one to finish ahead of him in this event.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 3:  No.1  TAVIS COURT  ($4.25 with BoomBet)

The Anna Clement-trained TAVIS COURT is second-up today and a proven mudlark who looks the one to beat in this event. Last start, the Tavistock gelding was fresh off a lengthy 30-week break when he finished third in Open company at New Plymouth in a 1400m contest. His second-up record is rock-solid, with six previous appearances resulting in two wins and three runner-up finishes. His eight career wins have all come on wet tracks and he is a track specialist as well, boasting two wins and three other podium finishes from his seven runs here. With so much going for him here, his claims here cannot be ignored.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 2:  No.2  FARAGLIONI  ($7 with Ladbrokes)

The Josh Shaw-trained FARAGLIONI makes her Wanganui debut today and now four starts into this campaign looks in the mix for a win. Last start, the El Roca mare finished mid-field in the Group 3 Rotorua Itm Stakes over 1400m at Arawa Park. The competition that day proved to be a little too rich for her but here she faces a big drop in grade. Jonathan Parkes jumps aboard for his first ride on the mare who should be fighting fit after those four runs back. All four career wins have come on wet tracks so the forecast heavy track today should also prove ideal for the four-year-old. Ideally drawn in gate two, she maps to be box-seating on settling and a win here (at odds) would not surprise.
