Northam Tips 10/05/2023
BEST BET 🏆
Race 1 No. 5 CRYSTALIST – ($2.70)
Brad Parnham steered CRYSTALIST to an effortless trial win in sharp time over 1000 metres at Belmont recently. Crystalist was having his first piece of public work since Chris & Michael Gangemi acquired the 3yo from Mathew Ellerton. Jumped okay out of an inside gate to sit up outside the leader. Parnham couldn’t hold the horse any slower as Crystalist pulled himself to a clear lead on straightening. The three-year-old ran to the line under his own steam without being asked for an effort. There’s not much of him so we don’t expect it will take a lot to bring this guy on. Pace inside from Star Power may help Parnham to remain one-off while following the speed crossing from his outside.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4 No. 5 THE COLLECTOR – ($4.20)
Tight markets throughout the day have made the job of nailing down a Next Best and Value a little difficult. We’ll go with the percentages here as we put THE COLLECTOR on top. Simon Miller boasts a strong 25% strike rate when sending horses to Northam while his supporters collect a 56.5% return on investment. He has The Collector out to a mile for the first time following three handy runs this time in. That last run behind She’s Imminent has proven to be a good form race with horses performing well out of it since. Paddy Carbery will also make use of barrier two which boasts the highest percentage of winners at Northam.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 6 No. 3 DANUBE RIVER – ($8.50)
Bruce Watkins steps DANUBE RIVER up in grade while his horse is racing in good form. The filly is only lightly raced and steps out to 1300 metres for the first time at Northam Racecourse on Wednesday. She put two wins together over the 1190 metres at Narrogin before being claimed in the shadows last start. Danube River followed the speed before giving a good kick by the top of the straight. It took just one horse in Tiff’s Lad to storm out of the pack and nab her in a photo. The pair left a good margin back to the others in a sign that they’re both ready to search for larger prize money. Taj Dyson claims his couple and should find an armchair ride while following the leader throughout.
