BEST BET 🏆

Race 4:  No.4  GOOD LIEUTENTANT  ($3.40 with Picklebet)

The Matt Smith-trained GOOD LIEUTENANT makes the trip south from Warwick Farm today and seeing the Nowra track for the first time, looks set to continue on with his current good form. Last start, the American Pharoah gelding was third-up and went one better than his Kembla Grange effort when he clobbered his rivals in a 1000m Maiden at Goulburn. On a Heavy 8 and with Jean Van Overmeire on board for the first time, he travelled four-wide without cover and still came home with a wet sail, putting more than four lengths on them over the line. He posted the fastest final 600m, 400m and 200m sectionals for that race as well. Overmeire sticks with him here and drawn well in gate five, a repeat of that last effort should see him crossing the line ahead of these today.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 2:  No.3  MAN OF REIGN  ($10.20 with BoomBet)

The locally-trained MAN OF REIGN is third-up today and sporting a tongue tie for the first time, looks in the mix here at odds. Last start, the Your Song gelding was second-up when he finished unplaced in a Class 1 Hcp, here over 1200m. Missing the start by two lengths put paid to any chance of a podium finish that day. He draws well again here in gate two and if he jumps with them today, he can put himself into the race. Already a winner when third-up, he looks well worth an each-way ticket today.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 7:  No.5  THE MAXINATOR  ($14 with Picklebet)

Gary Portelli saddles-up THE MAXINATOR here and third-up today, the wet-track lover looks well over the odds here and is capable of a podium finish in this contest. Last start, the Dream Ahead gelding found himself on a Good 4 at Bathurst where conditions didn’t suit him. Despite the track being against him, he still ran home fairly to finish fifth in the 10-strong line-up in a Class 4 over 1400m. The heavy track here today looks just cherry-ripe for him and placed twice from two previous third-up appearances, he looks at least a place chance here.
