Race 3 No. 4 HARD TO CROSS- ($2.60)

HARD TO CROSS can be an improver in Race 3. The Patrick Payne-trained galloper resumed at Moonee Valley on December 23 and was luckless when 5th behind Flash Feeling, beaten just over two lengths. The four-year-old was held up from the 500m to the 200m before sticking on. He will strip fitter for this and performed well in harder company than this at his last preparation.

Race 6 No. 10 RIVER ROSE- ($5)

RIVER ROSE can go close in Race 6. The Maher/Eustace galloper has had just the one career start with that coming over the 1100m at Caulfield back on December 14. She was last in the small field but kept closing off well to land just over two lengths from Unconquerable in 3rd position, producing the fastest last 200m to go 0.4 lengths slower than standard benchmark, which is the best last start figure of any runner. Improvement to come at her second start and the step up to the 1200m should see her feature in the finish.
