Race 2 No. 3 INTO THE WOOD – ($3.75)

The hot local stable of John Dunn & Krystal Bishop nearly upset punters when they trained the quinella of the 1350 metre maiden here on New Year’s Eve. INTO THE WOOD settled towards the tail of the field during the run before looming ominously into the straight. Favourite backers had their hearts in their mouths over the concluding stages as the heavily-fancied stablemate Hotfootit burst through along the fence to hold a narrow margin over Into The Wood who put in a late dive out wide. Not happy to see that there isn’t another suitable 1350 metre race on the card for Into The Wood. Nichola Yuen will just have to get back early from an outside gate before letting rip with one run up the middle into the straight.

Race 8 No. 2 MESSERSCHMITT – ($6.40)

Rochelle Milnes appears to have unlocked the secret to MESSERSCHMITT with the pair winning three out of their last four races. Messerschmitt seemed destined just to go through the motions on the racetrack for his patient connections. John Dunn & Krystal Bishop continued to persist with the horse who has been showing more early speed under Milnes. Settled handy to a good speed to run smart time in winning his latest two races over 1000 metres. Messerschmitt has drawn low for Milnes as gets back out to 1210 metres at Port Lincoln on Wednesday. The early market has opened wide enough to allow us on with Messerschmitt being an each-way play all day.

Race 9 No. 11 TALLU – ($24.50)

Waiting on a rider for TALLU who has come up as first emergency in the last at Port Lincoln Racecourse on Wednesday. He’s a hard horse to catch, though has shown improvement in two runs since transferring back to Port Lincoln. Tallu is now under the care of local master Simon Drewitt who sent him around over 1210 metres here two starts ago. Tallu rolled forward to sit handy to a good speed under Rochelle Milnes before going to the front early into the straight. The pair were left a sitting shot and were overcome by a wall of horses approaching the finish. Drewitt then had Tallu go around in another fast-run race, this time over 1350 metres when caught deep throughout. This is a good field to end the day’s racing, and Tallu can give some cheek up on the pace should he gain a start.
