BEST BET 🏆   

Race 2 No. 3 SHILLING LANE – ($2.35) 

Impressive trial winner SHILLING LANE met with good support on debut over 1000m at Ascot. He is a big gross horse who carries plenty of condition and is expected to continue to improve with work. Paul Harvey kept the horse reasonably honest during the trial when Shilling Lane went to them from the top of the straight after finding a midfield position early. Shilling Lane did step nearly a length slower than the rest of the field in that debut race which was won by Riseanfall. There was a lot of speed up front which ensured that Shilling Lane was left further behind as he tried to gather his feet. Harvey circled the field as the widest runner from well back as Riseanfall bounded clear to score. Shilling Lane caught the eye in finishing second while running time, and we wouldn’t expect this field to go out so fast over the extra journey on Wednesday.

Race 7 No. 5 MARINSKY BALLET – ($3.40) 

Our recent review from Ascot Racecourse led us to mark MARINSKY BALLET as a horse of interest. This was a couple of starts ago when Brad Parnham let her come back to around midfield in a fast-run mile. Parnham set her alight from the top of the straight after circling as the widest while turning. Lord Gannicus had kicked strongly after settling just in behind the leaders to deny Marinsky Ballet who kept coming. The winner was impressive in running a sharp time for the race while Marinsky Ballet will strip fitter again and should be ready to peak at her fourth run back. We were on Marinsky Ballet last start, and so too perhaps, was an apprentice rider. This was very hard watch which was made even harder in review when going over the silly mad pace that was set in front on Marinsky Ballet.

Race 4 No. 8 SNIP OF GLAMOUR – ($14)

Ascot trainer Colin Webster could do with a change of luck for SNIP OF GLAMOUR. The mare came under notice with a handy effort while resuming over 1100m on her home track. She got back under Jordan Turner from their wide gate before making late headway in the race won by Bondi Plunge. Two starts later and Snip Of Glamour again seemed to hit a flat-spot as the pressure came on over 1300m at Belmont. She finished off late under Jordan to reel some of the margin back from Westcoast Express who raced clear with momentum. The addition of Blinkers may just switch her on a bit as Troy Turner now comes into the saddle as Snip Of Glamour again has to overcome another wide barrier draw.
