Port Augusta Tips 19/05/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 7 No. 1 RUBBLE – ($5)

Anna Jordjso gave RUBBLE everything last start to be out-bobbed by dirt specialist Sandsation. We backed the winner; however, we were cursing Anna’s good riding tactics during the race as she forced Sandsation to race wide throughout. At the end of the day, most of the winners have been coming from out there in these first two meetings of the season. Sandsation and Rubble both cleared out from the rest of them, and Rubble looks well placed in race which is back in grade.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 1 No. 3 SAHARA SONG – ($3.45)

Bryan Holtham applied the blinkers to SAHARA SONG as the mare won third-up here last prep. She jumped from an awkward wide gate before travelling kindly under Stacey Metcalfe. That was in this class and over this track and distance with Metcalfe going to them on turning. The pair settled down to fight it out with War Cheval who was the early race leader. Those two came right away from the others with Sahara Song getting her nose down at the right time. Turned the tables on Mysticano last time here the claim from Rochelle Milnes over 1100m. These two horses face off against Sandsation over six-furlongs with former Alice Springs apprentice Dakota Gillett doing the stalking on Sahara Song.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4 No. 4 MUG’S GAME – ($6.10)

We’re confident the best of the Alice Springs form can stand up in Port Augusta. Dakota Gillett rides MUG’S GAME for Nicky Irwin in a strong race over the mile. This will be a good test of Alice Vs Augusta following a short stint from Mug’s Game in Central Australia. He took a while to find the front after blowing the start before winning over this trip in 0-70 grade. Probably doesn’t really run 1900m, yet still ran second to the more than handy Write Your Name. Found top-class galloper That’s Justified too sharp when coming back to 1400m last time. Mug’s Game is better suited this trip and will likely push forward with the long run out of the chute.
