Port Augusta Tips 21/04/2024
BEST BET 🏆
Race 3 No. 4 WICKED ADDICTION ($3.60)
Journeyman trainer Kym Healy sets for the West Coast with WICKED ADDICTION who is a proven dirt track performer. The horse has been around the mark in the provincials, including a close second placing over this trip to Gogolf Guru on his home track of Strathalbyn. Raced up on the speed over the same then did not have the speed to match the others into the straight. Wicked Addiction will find this company to be a touch easier than those and should enjoy a comfortable run under Alana Livesey on Sunday.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 4 No. 1 EXCELMAN ($7)
The McKerlie and Hornhardt are coming off a successful Port Lincoln racing season and we’ve marked them as one to watch as racing moves to Port Augusta. Their classy grey EXCELMAN ran another big race while fresh as raced handier than usual over 1350 metres last start. Alan Lai found himself shuffled back to last as the pressure went on prior to straightening. This possibly cost his horse the race, particularly as he was forced to hold and wait for a run approaching the furlong. Excelman burst through as Hey Micheal was finding a split and these two horses went to the line together. Big chance if he can back it up at his second run from a spell with Caitlyn Munro taking the ride.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 1 No. 2 INNER SANCTUM ($17.20)
Racetrack experience at Port Augusta may advantage INNER SANCTUM as the horse attempts to break his maiden at start number thirty-four. We were with Inner Sanctum a few times when he placed on the track at good odds. He has been racing okay for trainer Danny Penna and did catch the attention in a much harder race at Balaklava last start. Inner Sanctum was away okay under Stacey Metcalfe before coming back to near last from their wide gate. Metcalfe steadily picked runs between horses with Inner Sanctum making late ground over 1050m. Rise in trip suits with Inner Sanctum clearly having a liking for dirt track racing.
