Race 3 No. 1 SANDSATION – ($4.50)

Dirt track specialist SANDSATION bounced back following two lackluster runs at Port Lincoln. She perhaps didn’t handle the tricky circuit and really played no part in those two races. Showed good speed to win a BM58 at Lock when resuming. Showed no concerns of the bar plates that went on as she and Celeritate Regem ran along in front in a three-horse field. Sandsaston pulled out plenty to the line while holding a margin over Classy Banner. Trainer Mick White gave her a let-up between those two wins and the runs at Port Lincoln. Got the job done in fine style for us last time when well backed and can make his presence felt again.

Race 4 No. 5 SAHARA SONG – ($4.50)

Bryan Holtham applied the blinkers to SAHARA SONG as the mare won third-up here last prep. She jumped from an awkward wide gate before travelling kindly under Stacey Metcalfe. That was in this class and over this track and distance with Metcalfe going to them on turning. The pair settled down to fight it out with War Cheval who was the early race leader. Those two came right away from the others with Sahara Song getting her nose down at the right time. Couldn’t quite pick up Mysticano last time here with Holtham seeking an edge with the claim from Rochelle Milnes on Sunday.

Race 6 No. 1 CHONCAPE – ($6)

Nicola Yuen is building a handy record on the Brendon Davis trained CHONCAPE. She won her first race ride on the Port Augusta local when pairing up with Choncape over 1400m in a Benchmark 58 at Lock. They opened up on their rivals that day to run out winners by more than three and a half lengths. The pair combined again to run a close second to Axecapital in this class over 1350 metres in Port Lincoln. Choncape and Yuen opened the Port Augusta season by box-seating off some hot speed over this track and trip. Yuen commenced her run to turn for home as the widest while Galaxy Falls hugged the fence to open a gap. The margin was too great and Choncape again had to settle for second. They ran along last start with Choncape strong to the end and might pay to follow.
