BEST BET 🏆
Race 7 No. 1 EXALTED MAXINE – ($3.30)
Laura trainer Bryan Holtham brings EXALTED MAXINE back home to the track and distance she races so well at. She’s won two from three here by pouncing to the front and showing blistering pace from the get-go. Cleared out from Zakybree in a benchmark 62 back in November before besting that time when beating Strawberry Swing two starts later. Couldn’t find the front against the open class horses at her only other go here, yet still finished second to Spanish Heirloom. Comes back from a race in town and has been tasked with some weight while down in class. Exalted Maxine is a strong mare who has shouldered the led bag in the past and will give them something to chase again.
NEXT BEST 🥈
Race 3 No. 8 PERFECT COMMAND – ($6.50)
We’ll bet around the hot favourite Centerfield with PERFECT COMMAND on an each-way basis. Centerfield should just be way too fast for them; however, we are not convinced the mare has come back this time in. Maybe the break from racing on the track in Port Lincoln has helped to refresh her, or perhaps Rocky King has found the key to her woes. Brenton Jones has Perfect Command racing well in Adelaide, including a recent win over this trip in town. We’ll put a line through his latest at Penola with Perfect Command showing consistent form with previous runs. Teagan Voorham and Perfect Command are a solid top three chance and can expose the fav should there be any chinks in the armor.
BEST VALUE 💰
Race 2 No. 4 KUBLAI – ($9)
John Dunn & Krystal Bishop are back on their “home deck” and have brought over a massive team including KUBLAI. The training duo have given this horse plenty of time to mature prior to his debut and showed during a recent trial. Kublai was away with them at Strathalbyn before coming back underneath the rider in Samuel Payne. The pair travelled close to the speed before taking the shortcuts on the turn. Kublai showed himself to be beautifully balanced with a nice low action which can only help him around Port Lincoln. He was no match late for Lord Morton who has since won at the provincial’s after being heavily backed. Market has given us some room to play with on Kublai who gains the services of Sophie Logan.
