Race 2 No. 7 WADAANA – ($3.40)

Being up in trip looks like a good recipe for success with WADAANA who appears ready to win a race. She was a little slowly away when coming in second-up off a let-up over 1200 metres at Naracoorte. She still had the pace to hunt forward and find a midfield position near the fence. Wadaana looked good when letting down into the straight with the race well and truly over. She also peaked on her run early, and we believe she could have finished much closer to the winner. Wadaana was completely run off her feet by Gerry’s Deal who led to win her maiden last start. We loved the way Wadaana let down into the straight to make up ground out wide. Still have some concerns that she may only possess a short, sharp sprint with the experience of Kayla Crowther coming into play on Friday.

Race 7 No. 4 AHSO – ($2.70)

The name AHSO keeps popping up during race reviews with the horse racing consistently this prep. He earned a spot in town with John Dunn & Krystal Bishop sending him around over 1539 metres on the Parks track. Ahso lobbed towards the rear in his usual manner in a race where they just walked out in front. He did well to get home between horses for third as the winner Chipson came with momentum up the middle. Ahso secured his connections their well-deserved victory when coming with a well-timed run to score over this track and distance last start. The claim for Rochelle Milnes ensures the horse stays well in under the minimum, and Ahso has drawn to be in the finish once again.

Race 5 No. 4 ARTFUL AMBITION – ($4.40)

Another local training duo scored a win at the season’s open when Callan Murray guided ARTFUL AMBITION home for Julie Branford & Hayley Dorward. The horse jumped sharply before coming back to near midfield in an evenly run race. The leader gave them the slip on turning with Murray bringing Artful Ambition as the widest runner into the straight. Artful Ambition used the length of the Port Lincoln Racecourse straight to pick up Rock Hard for a comfortable win. Has won again by stalking the speed from an inside gate to nab Royal Tyke in smart time. Doesn’t look to be heaps of pressure in this race on paper, and would think a few others will prove to be more popular in the betting ring. Don’t mind that Artful Ambition has drawn out a touch to where Stacey Metcalfe can work into the race as she pleases.
