Race 4 No. 5 No. 5 PRESCIENT – ($5.50)

The Mother and Daughter training combination of Julie Branford & Hayley Dorward can keep the winners ticking over with PRESCIENT on Friday. The lightly raced Prescient as already a winner on his home track and resumed with a dominant win at Balaklava recently. Didn’t put big margins on his rivals or anything, he was there to be beaten for a long way while denying all comers. Jessica Eaton allowed Prescient to roll forward over the 1200 metres that day and it is anticipated that Ben Price will allow similar out of the 1350m chute here. There will be a few others wanting to lead and Price can maintain a stalking position to produce Prescient into the straight.

Race 9 No. 11 GOODARCHIE – ($7)

Wily horse trainer/trader Roslyn Day knew what she was doing when sending GOODARCHIE to race in Port Lincoln last start. Kayla Crowther let the big gelding find his feet around horses early over the 1210 metres here. She kept him balanced on turning before producing Goodarchie with a winning run into the straight. Snapped-up by local trainer Simon Drewitt to continue racing with the original interests, Goodarchie may have found his region in Port Lincoln. This is often a tricky track for horses to handle first time out, and Goodarchie can continue to improve from here.

Race 1 No. 1 DANIEL MY BROTHER – ($16)

John Dunn & Krystal Bishop looked to kick-start the Port Lincoln season with a three-pronged attack in the first on the season opener. They must have been left shaking their heads as all three horses were slowly away from the machine. Some excuses at the start for DANIEL MY BROTHER however, as one tightened onto him on jumping away, Daniel My Brother had impressed in the local barrier trials leading into race day. He was hardly wanted in betting though, which shows the depth of the maiden field that he came up against. Showed enough again as Alice Livesey hunted him along the rails into a position before peaking on his effort over the 1210 metres. It looks like Daniel My Brother has enough pace to appreciate the drop back to 1000 metres.
