Port Lincoln Tips 20/12/2023

BEST BET 🏆

Race 9 No. 5 SINO WITNESS – ($6)

We backed SINO WITNESS as our Best Bet at a price of around $8 when racing here two starts ago. We were left bitterly disappointed considering the extreme confidence level we had going into the race. Sino Witness led all the way to win a much harder race over the same track and distance the start prior. The drop in grade coupled with a soft pace map on paper had us scratching our heads at the market price. What was unforeseen was the manner in which Battle Royale chose to take Sino Witness on for the front spot with the pair clamping on the speed. While the other horse continued for a big watch run, Sino Witness was the first horse beaten. Battle Royale has also since won on the Friday twilight meeting at Morphettville. Of course we weren’t on last start when Sino Witness came out to smash this grade off a soft lead.

NEXT BEST 🥈

Race 5 No. 6 CATALINA BLUE – ($3)

Slow speeds enabled CATALINA BLUE to be close enough running when winning her first two starts this campaign. A different scenario awaits the mare at Port Lincoln Racecourse on Wednesday where the pace and pressure is expected to be on. Will pay to forget last start in a fast-run race when Catalina Blue finished out the back on a heavy track. All of her good form has been on top of the ground, and we are expecting this track to continue to improve. Teagan Voorham will be minding her own business early before unleashing Catalina Blue with one run at them into the straight.

BEST VALUE 💰

Race 4 No. 8 MIZZ BEEBEEFF – ($14)

The Des Courtney trained MIZZ BEEBEEFF gets a chance to break through with her third run at Port Lincoln Racecourse on Friday. The mare won her trial here before settling behind an even tempo when resuming. Stacey Metcalfe took the split at the top of the straight with Mizz Beebeeff booting clear to look all over a winner. It took just one horse in Journey In Time to come out of the pack and nail her on the line. Trapped deep without cover second-up in a fair effort behind Prescient. There doesn’t appear to be a lot of speed drawn to their inside on Wednesday. We’ll look for Metcalfe to be positive early and possibly follow the leader Opal Beach who is drawn alongside in the next gate.
