Race 6:  No.4  OCTOBER REVOLUTION  ($4.05 with BoomBet)

The locally-trained OCTOBER REVOLUTION is in career-best form of late and ticks enough boxes here to be considered a winning chance today. Last start, the Russian Revolution gelding made it back-to-back wins when he took out a BM50 Hcp, here over 1008m. With Ben Looker on board, he came from the rear of the field and ran them down to grab victory, doing his best work over the final 50m. He won his Maiden two starts back over 1250m so the 1100m trip today shouldn’t pose any problems. Looker sticks with him here and the three-year-old draws to do no early work from gate two. With a clear run to the line, he looks set for the hat-trick today.

Race 8:  No.2  OAKFIELD MAHOGANY  ($3.45 with BoomBet)

The Damien Lane-trained OAKFIELD MAHOGANY is fresh off an 18-week break and with trials behind him, he looks set to create some damage here today. Last start, the Capitalist gelding ended his last (three-start) preparation by finishing fourth in a BM68 Hcp over 1200m on his home track at Wyong. The company proved a little too strong for him (with only seven race starts behind him at the time). He won his most recent trial over 1000m just two weeks ago. He boasts a strong fresh record and today had Aaron Bullock back in the saddle, who rode him to his Maiden victory at Scone. The stable fit the blinkers here for the first time and from gate four, he maps to settle just off the speed. Already a winner when first-up, he could take beating today.

Race 9:  No.3  CAVENTE  ($8 with Ladbrokes)

Locally-trained by John Sprague, CAVENTE is second-up here and boasting a strong track record, looks a real threat to the race favourite (Better Judgement) in this contest. Last start, the Mikki Isle filly was fresh off a 14-week spell when, clearly in need of the run, finished mid-field in a Class 1 Hcp over 1000m at Taree. She was trapped three-wide (without cover) to the turn and simply had nothing left in the tank for the run home. She hasn’t had a regular rider since Ash Morgan finished runner-up on her five starts back at Tuncurry and today that trend continues as Cejay Graham is legged aboard for her first ride on the three-year-old. She draws the middle of the field today but maps to use her early gate speed to cross and settle in the first half-dozen, with cover this time. Yet to the miss the podium in three starts on her home track and a winner here three starts back, second-up and fitter, she can give this assignment a real shake today at odds.
